Quick questions parents ask

My child moves numbers across the = sign and gets signs wrong. Help?

The “transpose and flip the sign” shortcut fails exactly this way when taught first. The balance method — subtract 5 from BOTH sides — never produces sign confusion, and the shortcut then emerges naturally. The video teaches it in that order.

How is this connected to the Tallentex and Olympiad papers?
