Sign errors are the #1 mark-killer from now until Class 10 — one dropped minus and a correct method scores zero. When your child practises, have them circle the sign of the answer before computing the value. Strange-sounding, but it builds the checking reflex that toppers have.

The old book taught integers first — is my child behind?
Not at all. Ganita Prakash deliberately moved integer operations to Part 2, after expressions and number sense are solid. Your child arrives at negatives better prepared, not later.
Why is minus times minus plus?
The honest answer: because it’s the only rule that keeps multiplication’s patterns consistent — watch the pattern 3×(−2), 2×(−2), 1×(−2), 0×(−2), then (−1)×(−2) must be +2 to continue the pattern. The video walks this exact ladder; children find it genuinely satisfying.
